Big Idea: Knowing Christ will return strengthens you to live for him today.
Fact 1: The arc of the Christian life is suffering than glory.
Fact 2: There will be an end to this world.
Fact 3: The final destiny for those who do not serve Christ is eternal destruction.
Fact 4: The pain of suffering for Christ now will be infinitely exceeded by the joy of being with him then.
Big Idea: How can you help your church stand firm until the Lord returns?
1) Talk to them about God (1:1-2)
2) Talk to them about them (1:3-4)
3) Talk to God about them (1:11-12)
a. Make you worthy of his calling
b. Fulfill your every resolve for good
c. So that the name of Jesus maybe glorified in you and you in him
BIG IDEA: Jesus is the faithful Son who overcomes temptation so we can, too.
Three temptations
a. Bread (vv. 3-4)
b. Glory (vv. 5-8)
c. Protection (9-12)
Three implications
a. Worship the faithful Son.
b. Live a Spirit-filled life.
c. Learn to fight temptation.
Lie #1: Your sin has no impact on your relationship with God (6-7)
Lie #2: You can be completely free from sin right now (8-9)
Lie #3: Does God call you a sinner? You’re not! (10)
